Photographers: Emiliano Gatica

by Robb on June 13, 2008

Immediately after high school Emiliano Gatica was gripped with a wanderlust that sent him on an extended journey through his homeland, Argentina, and then farther north in search of uncrowded warm water waves in Brazil and then throughout Central America. While combing the coastline of Costa Rica, “Emi”, as he is called by his friends, discovered his penchant for, as well as his urge for capturing and crystallizing pure natural moments on film. Literally “strapped” to the camera he returned to Argentina and enrolled in the Martin A. Malharro fine arts school. After receiving his degree in photographic arts in 1999, he decided to spend a cruisy few months in the US, camera in hand. By sheer coincidence, he found himself on the other side of the camera, modeling for Banana Republic, a “pass go” card right into the epicenter of commercial photography. In 2001 Emiliano signed on as head photographic editor for Mundo Rad! Magazine, a surf publication based in Puerto Rico and distributed through out the East Coast of the US. Drawn to San Diego for it’s consistent surf, close proximity to the surf industry, and a beautiful new wife, he began his next project, 3FinsProductions Image Concepts, producing imagery, editorials, as well as providing print services and web design. As a contractor and consultant, he has helped local San Diego magazine, Surf Shot, to reach a new level of quality by converting it to a full color magazine with high quality printing. You can see his photography and art in Surf Shot’s issues 17 to 25. Currently, Emiliano contributes to many Latin American and American magazines, and provides product photography for South Coast online stores. Some of his most recent projects include ads for Aaron Chang, Mohs International, Rusty, etc. To contact Emi email:
