6 Tips For Money Saving Surfers

Most people think surfing is expensive (and it can be) but even if you’re on a budget, you can get the goods you need at a price you love!

1. Go for a low budget suit. Each company has their own standard suit that fits your wallet so try O’Neill’s Epic, Quiksilver’s Syncro, or Rip Curl’s Dawn Patrol.
2. If you’re getting your first suit, go for a full suit. It will keep you warm during the winter time and once summer hits, you can jump right into trunks!
3. Don’t go crazy on high-end fins until you and your hacks are ready!
4. Don’t skimp on the leash. This is where you don’t want to save money. Look at it this way- its the one thing holding you together with your board. If you save $10 on a leash and it breaks, you could be looking at a $100 repair or brand new board! Try FCS- they make great leashes!
5. Get a used board your first time around. It will teach you how to take care of a board and if you ding it right away, you won’t be hating yourself forever!

A few days ago, we had the pleasure of meeting 5 time surf champion Stephanie Gilmore at our Pacific Beach location! I’m sure everyone is wondering how we pulled this one off! Surfing side by side with a professional surfer is something I can cross off my bucket list! And the best part about the whole day- she is one of the nicest people ever! It is official! The summer months have rolled around if you have not noticed by all of the heat and sunshine. With this new found warmth that means lots of dips in the pool and visits to the beach. If you are a guy that means it is time to start shopping for boardshorts that you are going to rock to all of the summer hot spots. The best choices for bathing suit is obviously going to be some type of boardshort but the real question is what kind of color, design or style are going to get?

NBA Quiksilver Lakers Boardshorts

Groms are wild crazy energetic monsters whose youth is wasted on the young and their body generally never enough to keep them warm. If it weren’t for those little gremlins we’d all still be doing check turns and spend our waves finding them trim so for the sake of surfing’s progression let us keep the little ones warm. Quik has the same quality Synchro 2mm spring adult synchro scaled down for grommets. They still use their hyper stretch materials throughout the entire suit to give that added flexibility for all those crazy flips and recoveries that make most people joints start to ache just watching them. This Spring runs a basic flatlock stictch along with seamless paddlezones to avoid those nasty rashes that can come about when all they do over the summer months is surf eat and cause mischief. The trouble with groms is that normally they outgrow suits too quickly to be used another season but with the Spring suits generally the extra arm ands legs they’re still growing into won’t really affect the fit of the suit. The chest panel also runs their vaporstretch material on both grom and adults. Generally a rare find to procure in a Spring but Quik went ahead and tossed some of that warm golden fleece to help keep your chest a little dryer and you in the water longer. As I mentioned before the Adult and boys suits are identical so there a great buy if you need to get more than one in the family.
